The Stockman’s Story

 Historic Significance Meets Modern Excellence

Originally a Western hotel called The Pines, this structure was first conceived around 1902, two years before the town of Pinedale was founded. Over the decades, the Stockman’s property hosted a livery, domestic and wild game butchering, the local barber shop, famous homemade whiskey, quality food, libations, and entertainment. It has now morphed into the energetic establishment we know as Stockman’s today. It’s known as Sublette County’s fun country Saloon and Steakhouse, a place where locals and travelers alike gather.

In the mid-2000s, the establishment began falling into serious disrepair. It was saved from demolition by Buck Buchenroth, a fourth-generation Wyomingite with deep roots in Sublette County. Rather than let a key piece of town history fade, he took on the full restoration himself, serving as a steward of Pinedale’s heritage.

In spite of nearly five years of continuous construction and improvements, Stockman’s has been effectively open to the public since June 2021. Stockman’s receives regular requests for complete buyout events utilizing all three floors or even the entire property. Stockman’s performs food catering, inclusive of a state liquor license, around the state. Regular dining operations in the Steakhouse have been limited to 16 hours per week as proof of concept. The Saloon is open four days a week from 4pm to closing. There has been no advertising expenditure beyond event banners and the Stockman’s website. With minimal effort, Stockman’s has become THE dining destination in Sublette County. This establishment is now primed to realize its full potential and is ready for launch under new ownership.

Full-Scale Renovation – No Corners Cut

Since Mr. Buchenroth’s involvement, every inch of this property has been skillfully modernized. From top to bottom, the building was stripped to the studs where necessary and rebuilt with long-term intention. Key improvements include:

  • High-efficiency kitchen layout and equipment

  • Saloon redesigned to facilitate drinking and dining in a bright, friendly atmosphere

  • New roofing membrane system with 30-year warranty

  • Full fire suppression system throughout building

  • Ultra-modern wiring, ductwork, and plumbing

  • New bathroom fixtures and custom tiling

  • Comfortable en-suite apartment with full bathroom, washer/dryer, wood-burning fireplace, and private access to an 84-foot second floor balcony.

  • High-end custom renovations throughout all five floors (basement to rooftop)

The final task—completion of the building’s electrical system checklist—was completed in early 2025. This now-modern Western building functions as new while preserving its critical original character.

A Brand with Staying Power

Locals were clear: Stockman’s had to stay Stockman’s. The black and red color scheme, the Western theme, and the saloon vibe were non-negotiable. Mr. Buchenroth respected this and revitalized the space as a modern Western Steakhouse and Saloon that honors its legacy.
